Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY MILDRED (MICKEY) MARLOW
It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Mildred (Mickey) Marlow on Thursday, April 2, 2026, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, at 96 years old. In the wee hours of the morning, Mickey mercifully slipped the bonds of this earth to join her husband Arthur, daughter Lynn, great-granddaughter Brittany, brother James, and the other angels of the family, including nearly all of her generation.
Mickey leaves to mourn and miss her sons, Lester (Lyla), Wayne (Heather), Gregory (Valerie); grandchildren, Kristen (Mike), Liz (Keith), Michelle (Ken), Scott, Jeffery (Joanne), Meako-Anna (Elizabeth), Measha (Justin), Rilena (Brendan); great-grandchildren, Cody, Dillan, Olivia, Zoey, and Berkeley. She also leaves behind extended family throughout Canada and parts of the United States.
Mickey was born in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, on January 8, 1930, to Ernest and Adeline Fardy. She attended Notre Dame Academy, a convent school for girls in Charlottetown, where she acted in plays and completed her studies. After high school, Mickey was employed by the telephone company, where she worked in accounts receivable and occasionally worked the switchboard. In 1948, she had traveled by bus from Charlottetown to Summerside to attend a dance where she met Arthur (Art) Marlow, a young man stationed in Summerside with the Royal Canadian Airforce. Their romance soon blossomed, and they married on Arthur's birthday in 1950.
They soon started their family and were stationed in various locations across Canada. In 1968, Art was granted a compassionate transfer to CFB Winnipeg, to move the family closer to superior medical facilities where Lynn would receive a number of surgeries to improve her quality of life, living with Spina Bifida. Mickey and Art settled and lived permanently in Winnipeg, where they raised the family.
Our mother was the very definition of a homemaker and spent her entire life making our house a home. Mickey, Art, and his mother, Evelyn, created a home that was loving, nurturing, encouraging, and inclusive at a time when that was rare. Mickey was a wonderful cook and avid baker, preparing many family favourite meals and delicious baked goods. She also sewed and knitted, making clothing and accessories for her family and even for Lynn’s Barbie dolls. Creating Barbie doll clothes expanded further when she started making and selling these pieces to other families on the base. Their doors were always open to everyone, especially their children even during their most difficult times. They were delightful hosts of innumerable family gatherings, even as our families expanded.
Unwavering throughout Mom’s fifteen-plus-year battle with dementia were her love, grace, dignity, faith, and acceptance. Her question, “What should I be doing?” never ceased, as her desire to help and serve others always remained.
Rest in peace, our rock and comforter.
